The novel “LoveStar” by the Icelandic writer Andri Snair Magnason (b. 1973) is a dystopia with strong science fiction features. The plot, created by the author in 2002, is based on the story of a couple in love opposing an international concern that seeks to control not only the economy and industry, but also human feelings. The writer asks himself global philosophical questions. Where are the limits of human knowledge? Is it permissible for a person to take on the role of God the Creator? Is it possible to put scientific research at the service of commerce? What, in the end, remains unshakable in the world and in the life of an individual? Inspired by the works of Italo Calvino, Jorge Luis Borges, Kurt Vonnegut, George Orwell, Douglas Adams, Andri Snair Magnason created an original surreal picture of the future, not only gloomy and depressing, but and full of bizarre grotesquerie. The book has been translated into sixteen languages and has received a number of international literary awards: including the special prize of the American Philip K. Dick Award (2012), the French Grand Prix of Imagination (2016). The books “The History of the Blue Planet” (2020) and “The Time Box” (2021) by Andri Snair Magnason were published in Russian by the Gorodets publishing house.
