The young Dagestani Khasan, by a fateful coincidence, is sent into exile to one of the cities of the Russian Empire, where he meets his wife Alexandra, later Maryam. Different in ethnic background, they are able to love and trust each other with all their hearts. During the revolution, Hassan and his wife and daughter return to the mountains, to their native village. On the way home, scientist Stepan Ivanov takes them on his expedition, of which they become participants.
