The book by anthropologist Olga Drenda is devoted to the study of visual everyday life of the era of Polish “perestroika”. Taking as a basis the concept of hauntology (from haunt - ghost and ontology - ontology), Olga collects signs of a bygone time, from street fashion to the design of video rental cassettes, simultaneously clearing the memories of her respondents from both nostalgic embellishment and layers of later experience , distorting the original images. The book is based on interviews recorded with witnesses to the collapse of the People's Republic of Poland, as well as a rich photo archive, partially reproduced in this publication.
