For almost four decades, the Austrian Chancellor Prince K.-W.-L. Metternich (1773–1859) was one of the main characters on the European political scene. He was the “chief director” of the famous Congress of Vienna in 1815. He was called the “First Minister of Europe.” The time from 1815 to 1848 is still spoken of as the Age of Metternich. The most interesting episodes of the prince's biography include his relationship with Napoleon, which cannot be unequivocally assessed. His relations with the Russian emperors Alexander I and Nicholas I were also filled with dramatic collisions. The prince was connected with Russia not only by politics, but also by love. Biron's granddaughter, Bagration's wife, Benkendorf's sister - such is the bouquet of heroines in the Russian novels of the loving prince. The book will be useful not only for specialist historians, but also for a wide range of readers interested in European history.
