Three travelers - a Frenchman, an Englishman and a Dutchman - were plunged into a struggle for a magic rug that predicts fate, and, having been in the most incredible situations, emerge from them unharmed, and the Dutchman is also rich. The author gives this struggle for the “rug” a symbolic and political meaning (the struggle of Europeans for power and influence in the East, etc.), but the reader has the right not to follow him in this, the plot itself is so entertaining.
