Book by M.M. Bobrov - a front-line hero, a famous Russian athlete, coach, teacher, scientist, honorary citizen of St. Petersburg - consists of two parts, reflecting two unique aspects of the author during the Great Patriotic War. The first part talks about one of the rarest military specialties - camouflage steeplejacks. Among them, the author had the hardest and most dangerous job of camouflaging the golden architectural dominants of besieged Leningrad, which were used by fascist artillery and aviation as landmarks for firing and bombing. The second part of the book is devoted to the history of the confrontation between Soviet mountain rifle detachments and special units of the German Wehrmacht in the extreme conditions of the highlands in the Elbrus region during the Battle of the Caucasus (1942–1943). Then the author was the senior instructor of military mountaineering of the 105th separate mountain rifle detachment. The publication contains historical material that is unique in its information content and reliability. The author involves the reader in the events described, telling with pain and pride about the feat of the defenders of the Caucasus. Intended for a wide range of readers interested in Russian military history, mountaineering, and mountain tourism.
