Militsa Mathieu's book consists of two parts. The first - “In the Time of Nefertiti” - tells about the most interesting period in the history of Ancient Egypt, when Pharaoh Amenhotep IV shook the thousand-year-old foundations of ancient Egyptian society by declaring the previously little-known god Aten as the supreme deity. The pharaoh himself changed the name Amenhotep (“Amon is pleased”) to Akhenaten (“Useful for Aten”) and, as a sign of a break with his former life, moved from Thebes to the new capital Akhetaten. This city existed for only fifteen years, but that was enough for an entire era in art to be associated with it. In all his endeavors, Akhenaten was accompanied by his wife Nefertiti. The second part of this publication consists of the work “Myths of Ancient Egypt”, in which, based on the Texts of the Pyramids, Texts of Sarcophagi, the Book of the Dead and other sources, tales in which the main characters are the solar god Ra, Osiris, Horus, Set and other characters of the ancient Egyptian pantheon are analyzed in detail. Militsa Mathieu is an Egyptologist, art historian, and head of the Hermitage’s Ancient Oriental Department.
