Many works of fiction and memoirs have been written about the Great Patriotic War. Usually they are devoted to the theme of courage and heroism of Soviet soldiers. However, there is still not enough published evidence about their daily life and everyday life. And there are fewer and fewer veterans who have retained the events of that time in their memory every year. The book by war veteran S. G. Stopalov, who took part in it from the first days until the Victory, shows, without political embellishment or exaggeration, how they lived and fought ordinary infantrymen and artillerymen on the front line, it tells about the everyday life of front-line soldiers, work in the rear and how soldiers and officers overcame difficulties and hardships, regardless of their origin, nationality and military rank. Examples are given of the relationship between our military personnel and the German population in post-war Germany.
