Six hundred years ago, one clown wandered throughout Germany and, wherever he went, he committed such outrages that people’s eyes simply popped out of their heads. This clown's name was Till Eulenspiegel. The only thing he knew how to do well, besides performing his tricks, was dance on a tightrope. But he had no desire to perform in the circus or at a fair. He did not like others to laugh at him. On the contrary, he himself loved to laugh at others. There are a great many stories told by the people about Ulenspiegel and recorded in old books. If I decided to tell them all, it would turn out to be a book that you wouldn’t even be able to lift. Therefore, I will retell only twelve of his amazing adventures.
