The counteroffensive of the Red Army troops, successfully launched on November 19, 1942, made it possible within a matter of days to encircle the 300,000-strong army of Field Marshal Paulus, which had been trying to capture the city on the Volga since August 1942. But the situation around Stalingrad remained difficult. The enemy was strong and continued to stubbornly defend. In December, German troops attempted to relieve the encircled army of Paulus, and this attempt was almost crowned with success. The novel describes a raid on the German rear of the assault tank battalion of Captain Andrei Shestakov. For his bold and unexpected blows, battalion commander Shestakov received the nickname “Snow Fox” from his opponents. His tanks, reinforced by paratroopers, appeared in the most unexpected places, sowing death among the Nazis. The book was written based on real events.
