Jean-Dominique Bauby is the author of this confession. “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” is his message to the world. In his body, frozen forever, only one eye moves. With this eye he blinks, once to say yes, twice to say no. Thus, from the letters of the alphabet indicated by a flick of the eyelashes, words, phrases, and entire pages emerge. So, from under the glass cover of a spacesuit, from a brain enclosed in a frozen body, in which butterflies-thoughts flutter, he sends us his postcards - messages from a world in which there is nothing left except the spirit and mind of the creator at work.
