For the first time in Russian! “The Book and the Sword” is a legendary novel in the wuxia genre from the master of Chinese historical fantasy Jin Yong. The author is rightly called one of the pillars of the “wuxia tripod”: record print runs, dozens of films and TV series, video games created based on the plots of the works brought Jin Yong world fame. The action of the novel “The Book and the Sword” takes place during the Qing Dynasty during the reign of the emperor Qianlong (1735–1796). The main storyline is based on the confrontation between the power of the emperor and the Order of the Red Flower, whose activities are aimed at overthrowing the Manchu Qing government. All members of the Order, led by the noble Chen Jialuo, are renowned martial arts masters, for whom any injustice becomes an immediate guide to action. They come to the aid of the Islamic tribe and return the sacred book for Muslims, the Koran, stolen by the mercenaries. In gratitude for this, the daughter of the tribe leader, the beautiful Huo Qingtong, presents Chen Jialuo with an unusual dagger, the secret of which he has yet to reveal. The author skillfully interweaves stories of fictional and real historical ones characters (Emperor Qianlong, military leader Zhaohui, “fragrant concubine” Xiangfei - the prototype of Princess Kasili), forcing readers to empathize with the heroes and closely follow the development of the plot. The eternal struggle between good and evil, impeccable kung fu, a lost city in the desert, the mystery of the origin of the emperor and the brave actions of the Order of the Red Flower, love and revenge are just part of what you will find in the novel “The Book and the Sword.”
