Hieromonk Anikita, in the world Prince Sergius Alexandrovich Shirinsky-Shikhmatov, is a significant person in the history of Russian Athos. Having stayed on the Holy Mountain quite a bit, he somehow simply and naturally united the previously scattered Russian monks, brought them into the Russian Panteleimon Monastery, previously inhabited only by Greeks, founded a church in the name of the Russian Saint Mitrofan of Voronezh, first in the Panteleimon Monastery, and then in the monastery of the prophet Elijah, so that from then on Saint Mitrofan became the heavenly patron of the Athonites. We can say that with his visit to Athos, the revival of Russian monasticism on the Holy Mountain began.
