Nicolas Fargues (b. 1972) is one of the most interesting French writers of the new generation, the author of eight novels. He worked in the library and read manuscripts at the Gallimard publishing house, like Milan Kundera and Pascal Quignard, and worked in television and advertising, like Frederic Beigbeder. Like the latter, he is a favorite author of young people. The Russian reader will begin his acquaintance with Farg with the book “I Was Nearby.” Following it, the novel “You Will See” will appear in Russian, which in 2011 brought the author the very prestigious “France-Culture Télérama” award. “I Was Next” was perceived by readers as a classic of the modern love-psychological novel. The hero is smart, educated, handsome and... hopelessly faithful to his wife - a bitchy black beauty prone to love adventures, who bore him two children. Under the writer's pen, an abyss of feelings opens up in a banal story of adultery. The hero, finding himself in a Tuscan restaurant, receives a note from an unfamiliar girl. She was sitting at the next table, but he didn’t see her. Obeying an unclear impulse, the hero makes an appointment with her. Out of curiosity, not at all thinking about treason. How will this meeting turn out for him - a fleeting adventure, a trap, or an explosion of feelings, the only chance to get out of the dead end?..
