In the Russian history of statehood, different periods of life and development took place. There were times of rise, defeat, and decline, but our country always found the strength and ability to overcome dangerous periods and continue its development. During troubled periods for the country, Russian writers also had their say; they felt, understood the time, its needs, and in their works they awakened the best feelings of the Russian people, sowed hope, called for the fight for freedom and independence. What characteristic qualities of the Russian person can be noted? Kindness, justice, mutual assistance, compassion, love for one’s neighbor, faith to a better future. Over the past decades, these qualities of the Russian character have clearly weakened, and in my book I wanted to reflect the urgent need of us, the Russian people, to restore these qualities in our characters; whether this was achieved will be decided by the reader.
