In the diary, entries in which appeared from May 1936 until the author's arrest in October 1944, Friedrich Reck-Mallechewen describes with unparalleled poignancy the barbarity of National Socialism, foreseeing the inevitable collapse of the regime. The Reka-Mallecheven text, first published in 1947, became his best known work and one of the most important documents of the Hitler period. The diary has been translated into French, Dutch, English, Italian and Spanish. Friedrich Reck-Mallechewen (1884–1945) was a German writer and journalist. In 1944 he was placed in the Dachau concentration camp, where he died in February 1945.
