The African campaign of the Roman commander Publius Cornelius Scipio occupies a special place in the history of the Second Punic War. It was as a result of this that Carthage suffered a final defeat and turned from a world superpower into a weak regional power. The fate of the war was decided in the grandiose Battle of Zama. Unlike the Battle of Cannae, this battle did not enrich military science in any way, but its consequences influenced the fate of the entire Mediterranean. And if after his triumph at Cannae Hannibal only prolonged the war, then after the victory at Zama Scipio brought Carthage to its knees. The main characters in the final act of the Second Punic War were the military and political leader of Carthage Hasdrubal, son of Giscon, the Numidian kings Syphax and Masinissa, the Roman commander Scipio Africanus. Hannibal appeared only at the very end of this grandiose historical drama, when it was almost impossible to change anything.
