For many years, Metropolitan Anthony led seminars organized by the London Medical Group on issues of Christian values and ethics in medicine, Christian attitude towards the sick, towards the dying person. According to the Bishop himself, in his approach to these issues he “cannot separate within himself a person, a Christian, a bishop, a doctor.” His scientific and medical education and experience, combined with fifty years of pastoral ministry, allow him to assert that “the soul of man, the spirit of man and the flesh constitute one mysterious whole.” This holistic approach to issues of life and death - questions that every person inevitably thinks about - makes the proposed conversations valuable not only for the pastor-priest, but also for a wide range of readers, and first of all, for doctors.
