The murder of Magadan governor Valentin Ivanovich Tsvetkov in October 2002 right in the center of the capital, near the government walls, in broad daylight, shocked the entire country. Millions of people, who had never even heard of Tsvetkov before, asked themselves a painful and simple question: if the life of an official of such rank is defenseless, then what is ours worth? What are our state, all its laws, the Constitution and human rights worth, when the most important right - the right to life - can be taken away at any moment by someone’s evil will? This book is not about Tsvetkov’s tragedy, although he perhaps recalls one of her heroes. But it is about the situation in the region by bloody October... it is about people, about gold, about the circumstances in which these people lived and worked, loved and died. It is not for nothing that the “golden version” was accepted by investigators as one of the main ones in the murder of the governor. And I categorically declare that a mine with that name and heroes with such names do not exist in nature. They are a figment of the author’s imagination, his invention, or, in extreme cases, conjecture. Therefore, the author does not bear any responsibility for the coincidence of circumstances of place, time and action. The author is not responsible for the guessability of individual characters: people consumed by the “golden moth” most often look the same... odious.
