In his more than fifty years, the Frenchman Philippe Gian had to live in the United States repeatedly and for a long time: he turned out to be a rare example of an experimenter for modern French literature, persistently grafting onto European soil the experience of the American book industry, American cinema, and American television. His first major success came with the 1985 novel “37.2° in the Morning,” filmed by Jean-Jacques Benex with Béatrice Dalle in the title role, and subsequently translated into more than twenty languages. Late last year, Gian launched a six-book series of novels that emulate the American series Six Feet Under. "What a Kiss!" - a strange mixture of a typical American noir, detective and psychological novel. Two police officers, Nathan and Mary-Jo, are investigating the brutal murder of a girl, the daughter of a villainous tycoon. This is a book about mutual misunderstanding and cruelty, about the meaninglessness of the existing order and attempts to resist it.
