In the mid-1920s, actress Lotta Lenya (real name Caroline Wilhelmina Charlotte Blamauer) meets her future husband, composer Kurt Weill, under whose guidance she polishes her skills and in 1928 plays the role of the pirate Jenny in Bertolt's The Threepenny Opera Brecht, which becomes the starting point in her artistic career. Based on documentary and epistolary material, Eva Nies provides a snapshot of the vibrant and diverse cultural life of Germany on the eve of the Second World War.
