Pavel Petrovich Skoropadsky was a brilliant cavalry officer in the Russian Imperial Army. He ended the First World War as a lieutenant general, and after the February Revolution, he relied on the Ukrainian map and began the Ukrainization of his corps. In the spring of 1918, during the coup, Skoropadsky became the hetman (head) of Ukraine.In his memoirs, the author talks about the events in Ukraine in late 1917 - early 1919, shows the process of forming his government, the relationship between various Ukrainian factions. Of particular interest are Skoropadsky's impressions of contacts with the German occupation authorities and representatives of the Don and Volunteer armies.
