This electronic book, aka e-book, is dedicated to the Salix distribution, one of the “clones” of Slackware. It is interesting in itself. But also because, among all the descendants of the oldest surviving distribution, it most closely inherits the features of the parent system. And therefore, getting to know it can be considered (including) as the fastest and easiest method of entering the world of Slackware. Because the phrase “If you know Slackware, you know Linux” has still not lost its relevance. This book is not a guide to Salix, Slackware, or, especially, Linux in general. No, this is a description of the distribution-specific features of Salix - those that seemed interesting to me, and which I used in my practical work. The basis of the book was made up of notes about Salix on the Blog site and a series of articles posted on IBM developerWorks (its contents are here). Now they have been corrected, supplemented and tidied up, so there is no complete coincidence with the materials previously posted on these resources. The immediate impetus for the design of all the presented materials was the desire of my son Victor to dive into Salix himself and to introduce his sister Olga to it. So this e-book is dedicated to them.
