The life of a believer always contains three aspects: in relation to God, in relation to man and in relation to satanic forces. In Ephesians these three aspects are summarized in three words: “sit” (2:6), “walk” (4:1), and “stand” (6:11). To be useful in the hand of God, a man must be properly disposed in regard to all three aspects: his position, his life and his struggle. If he underestimates the importance of any of them, he falls short of God's requirements, since each aspect is an area in which God wants to express “the glory of his grace, which he has made available to us in the Beloved” (1:6).
