Polina Bogdanova's book is devoted to the analysis of the general and individual characteristics of the generation of directors who entered creative life at the turn of the 70s. The seventies, taking over the baton from the previous major generation of directors of the sixties, spoke out not only against Stalinist ideology and aesthetics, but also against totalitarianism in all forms of its manifestation. They turned out to be more radical in their artistic and social program, focusing more on existential and metaphysical issues. This significantly expanded the boundaries of their search and led them onto the path followed by world theater. Today the names of Anatoly Vasilyev, Kama Ginkas, Lev Dodin, Mikhail Levitin, Valery Fokin, Henrietta Yanovskaya sound like the names of great and original artists, creators of original theaters of the 20th and 21st centuries. Polina Bogdanova is a famous theater critic and cultural critic, author of the books “The Logic of Change. Anatoly Vasiliev: between the past and the future" (2007), "Directors of the sixties" (2010), "Anatoly Vasiliev's Theater of the 1970-1980s. Method and Aesthetics” (2011).
