Zalman Shneur (1887–1959, real name Zalman Zalkind) was a talented poet and prolific prose writer, writing in Hebrew and Yiddish, and the author of many short stories and novels. In 1929, the writer published the book “Shklovtsy,” a collection of stories imbued with gentle irony and nostalgia about his hometown. In 2012, “Shklovtsy” was translated into Russian and published by the Knizhniki publishing house. In the collection of stories “Uncle Zyama” (1930), readers will meet those familiar to them from the previous book and the new inhabitants of Shklov. The lyrical portrait of a Jewish town created by Zalman Shneur is undoubtedly one of the best in Jewish literature.
