Morten Ramsland (b. 1971) is the most striking discovery in Danish literature in the coming 21st century. The writer’s first novel, as well as his early collection of poems, went virtually unnoticed by critics and readers, while the second, “Head of a Dog” (2005), was a resounding success and was translated into two dozen languages. For this book, the author was awarded three of Denmark’s most prestigious literary prizes. “The Head of a Dog” is an outstanding example of a modern Scandinavian saga, a parable with a fair amount of grotesque and comedy, and, at the same time, a historical epic about the life of three generations of the Norwegian-Danish family of Erikssons - with the late 1930s to the present day.
