Jacob, the hero of the novel “The Poor Guys,” returns from New York to Berlin on the eve of September 11, 2001, the day of the terrorist attack in America, having happily escaped death. Together with his wife Isabelle, he moves to London, where he is offered a prestigious job. The young couple is a model of well-being. However, it gradually becomes clear that their life, so spectacular on the outside, is empty on the inside. Love has disappeared, and secret passions fill the void.
