E. Werner is the pseudonym of the German writer Elisabeth Bürstenbinder (1838–1912), whose novels and stories enjoyed enormous success at the end of the last - beginning of this century and are now again enthusiastically accepted by the reader. In the three works of the novelist collected in this book, all strata of society are represented - the highest aristocracy and clergy, the bourgeoisie and people of art. The narrative obeys the laws of the genre - “ladies' romance”: women, very different in character, are charmingly beautiful, men are smart, courageous and powerful. These are proud, passionate natures, people of strong feelings, and love conquers pride... Life puts Werner's heroes in difficult, sometimes tragic situations, but justice triumphs, and, as always, the novel is crowned with a happy ending.
