The book examines the history of one of the most elite and famous military formations of the army of the Byzantine Empire - the Varangian Guard (Varangi). The history of the creation and structure of the Varangian Guard, the specifics of its recruitment, training, equipment and weapons are studied. The features of the combat tactics of the guard formation and the main milestones of its centuries-old military path and internal service are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to famous people who at different times served in the ranks of the guard, as well as the Russians who were part of the guard. Varanga is characterized as a universal military formation of increased reliability.
