The book is a collection of testimonies from relatives and friends, colleagues and fans of Rachmaninov’s music at different stages of the composer’s life. It contains memories of those closest to Sergei Vasilyevich and his family, and memoirs of contemporaries, giving an idea of the era and time in which the composer lived and worked.
When conceiving this project, we saw it as the second part of “ dilogy”, which would include Oscar von Riesemann’s book “Sergei Rachmaninov. Memories" and a collection of memoirs of many of the heroes of these memories. We have collected these memories together in a sequence close to chronological, leaving research and musical-analytical articles outside the scope of our book and preserving the fictional, novelistic intonation, as in the book of Rieseman, who was so imbued with the life and fate of Sergei Rachmaninov that when reading, the border sometimes disappears between the speech of the composer and the author.
