In the “NB” section there is an essay by the American writer Richard Preston (1954) “The War on the Ebola Virus” translated by A. Averbukh. A chronicle of an epidemic, indeed similar to front-line reports. At the end of the essay it is said: “Man as a species has certain advantages in this war and can use means that are inaccessible to the virus. Among them are awareness, the ability for collective action, and the willingness to sacrifice - all these are properties that have allowed us to master the planet. If the Ebola virus is capable of changing, then we are capable of changing, and even, perhaps, even faster.”
