The multifaceted activities of the Buryat Hambo Lama Agvan Dorzhiev (1854-1938), his active participation in the political events that unfolded around Tibet at the beginning of the 20th century, tireless work in disseminating the teachings of Buddha and enlightening the Mongolian peoples constitute one of the brightest pages in history Russia. In 1921, Dorzhiev compiled an autobiography in Mongolian, presenting it in poetic form. The publication of Agvan Dorzhiev’s autobiography was based on a Buryat manuscript stored in the Manuscript Department of the St. Petersburg branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
