Nikolai Eduardovich Heinze (1852–1913) - prose writer, journalist and playwright. The story “A Scene from Life” was written in 1898. This is a sketch from the life of the inhabitants of St. Petersburg at that time, with vividly drawn characters and passions of the heroes of the story. Testifying to the author’s everyday observation, his inexhaustibility in inventing sharp plots and unexpected endings, Heinze’s works remain an easy, superficially entertaining read, despite the author’s penchant for maxims and moralizing.
