The second part of the dilogy (continuation of “Spring on the Oder”). The main autobiographical character is Major Lubentsov: the head of divisional intelligence in the first novel and the commandant of a German town in the second, where the story about the everyday life of the Soviet commandant's office in post-war provincial Germany, about the confusion and uncertain hopes of an ordinary German, is interspersed with sharp and angry chapters telling, in line with the revealing prose of the “Thaw”, about the mass psychosis of suspicion and mutual denunciation.
