A fundamental historical work is dedicated to the life of an outstanding military leader, the largest commander of the Second World War, Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov. Starting from his childhood and youth, spent in his native village of Strelkovka, Kaluga region, the first years of military service, participation in the first battles, the authors examine in as much detail as possible the military and government activities of G.K. Zhukov, his decisive influence on the course of the Great Patriotic War and his role in the victory over the invaders. Particular attention is paid to the fate of Zhukov in the post-war period, his persecution and subsequent rise. Without hiding either the merits or demerits of the marshal, the researchers present him to the reader as a brave and purposeful man. In Russian history, Zhukov is on a par with Suvorov and Kutuzov, his life is inextricably linked with the life of the Red Army, the Bolshevik Party and the Soviet Union. Interest in his personality does not wane; Zhukov remains one of the few figures of the Soviet era whose veneration was preserved even after the collapse of the system.
