Of the many women who passed through the history of the ancient world as companions of the great figures of that time, the author chose only three names, but which ones! This is Aspasia, the faithful companion of the Athenian legislator and commander Pericles; Cleopatra is the subverter of canons and the chosen one of Caesar and Anthony, and Theodora is a woman from the lower classes who turned into the mistress of half the world. It’s hard to call these women dissolute, although they did not deny themselves a certain freedom of morals. However, they were not short of greatness and pride. The author did not collect all the dirty gossip that these names have acquired over twenty centuries, while they are alive in the memory of mankind. On the contrary, he is very picky about the sources, examines the motives that motivated the memoirists and tries to convey to the reader true literary portraits in all their primordial form.
