The Chapters on Insight into Truth is a fundamental text on the methodology, theory, and practice of Taoist “inner alchemy” (nei dan). “Inner alchemy,” often also called “Taoist yoga,” is a complex set of psychophysical exercises aimed at achieving the ultimate goal of the Taoist religion - immortality, perfection and unity with all things. Exercises of internal alchemy are also actively used in modern gymnastics of qi gong, the authorities of which consider the work of Zhang Bo-duan as a classic work on qi gong. This publication includes the first complete translation into Russian of the text of the “Chapters on the Insight of Truth”, accompanied by detailed terminology and religious commentary; as well as an introductory article, which is an original study of the Taoist doctrine of immortality and the ways of achieving it. The design of the book uses engravings for the woodcut edition of “Tao Zang”, as well as elements of Ming and Qing folk paintings.
