Heinrich Schliemann, the famous German archaeologist, was captured by a great and passionate dream since childhood. He knew Homer's "Odyssey" and "Iliad" and Virgil's "Aeneid" by heart. As a child, he was introduced to them in a poor German translation, but later, as an adult, he learned the ancient languages in order to read and reread his favorite poems. He passionately believed that the people could not be mistaken, that the Troy and its “copper-armoured” defenders and opponents described by Homer really existed, perhaps only slightly embellished by storytellers and singers. And Schliemann pursued in his life only one single goal: to find and unearth the disappeared Troy, bring it to the light of the sun, make this lost treasure the property of the whole world - after all, the Cyclopean walls of an indestructible fortress into which enemies could penetrate only inside the Trojan horse, the bronze gates could not fall apart even under the influence of a devastating fire, the weapons of the defenders and the treasures of Priam could not completely perish, even if the city was plundered! In this book you will find a story about the life of the famous German archaeologist, about the excavations of Troy and others centers of Mycenaean culture.
