In her youth, Ludu experienced psychological trauma. Over the years, she came to her senses, but the fear of open spaces remained with her forever. She even goes to the store with a huge black umbrella, separating herself from the outside world with it. After her sister got married and left for Angola, Ludo also left her native Portugal to settle in Africa. She has no idea what awaits her. When a revolution breaks out in Angola, Luanda is in turmoil. Left alone, Ludu takes the only step that can protect her from the horror of the outside world: she bricks up the door to her home. From now on, her life will proceed in complete isolation, and Ludu will only be able to spy on what is happening outside the walls of her house from her top floor. “The General Theory of Oblivion” is a book about memory and unconsciousness, about life alone and about a world that does not allow a person to be alone, about attempts to forget and remember everything at the same time. In 2017, the novel received the prestigious Dublin Prize, and a year earlier it was nominated for the International Booker Prize.
