Already the first trip put Major General Mikhail Vasilyevich Pevtsov (1843-1902) among the outstanding explorers of Central Asia. Many places in Altai and the Dzungarian Gobi, which no traveler had visited before Pevtsov, were excellently described and carefully mapped by his expedition. M. V. Pevtsov went on his first expedition in 1876. The object of the study was Dzungaria, a steppe region in northwestern China. The results of the trip, published in “Travel Sketches of Dzungaria,” immediately put S. V. Pevtsov among the leading researchers of Central Asia. “Essays on a trip to Mongolia and the northern provinces of inland China” is the result of Pevtsov’s second expedition, undertaken in 1878-1879. And ten years later, after the sudden death of N. M. Przhevalsky, the Russian Geographical Society appointed Pevtsov head of the Tibet expedition. Twelve years of life, almost 20 thousand kilometers traveled, countless geographical, geological, ethnographic discoveries, unique collections that included more than 10 thousand specimens flora and fauna of the places visited by the traveler - the outstanding Russian pioneer talks about this and much more in his books. Northern China, Eastern Mongolia, Kashgaria, Dzungaria - the epithet “endless” is quite suitable for these regions, but they are not at all “barren” and certainly not “uninteresting”. The results of Pevtsov’s expeditions were so impressive that they immediately entered the golden fund of world geographical science . The traveler's merits were awarded the highest awards of the Russian Geographical Society and the Imperial Family. It was M.V. Pevtsov who was entrusted with drawing the real state border of Russia with China to the east of Lake Zaisan. This publication includes descriptions of all of Pevtsov’s research routes: “Travel Sketches of Dzungaria”, “Sketches of a Travel in Mongolia and the Northern Provinces of Inner China” and “Proceedings of the Tibet Expedition 1889-1890.” Electronic publication of M. V. Pevtsov’s works includes all the texts of the paper book, comments, basic illustrative material, as well as photographs and maps. But for true connoisseurs of exclusive publications, we offer a gift classic book. The paper edition is richly designed: it contains more than 200 illustrations, including archival ones. The publication is printed on beautiful offset paper. In terms of the richness and variety of illustrative material, the books in the “Great Travelers” gift series are not inferior to art albums. Editions of the series will adorn any, even the most sophisticated library, and will be a wonderful gift for both young readers and discerning bibliophiles.
