Alice Byalskaya’s debut novel “The Light Crown” was highly appreciated by Lyudmila Ulitskaya, who wrote a preface to it and gave it a kind of “start in life.” "Easy Crown" is the story of Alice from a wealthy Soviet family. Her mother and father never traveled beyond the Garden Ring unless absolutely necessary, except abroad, and Alice herself was destined for the future of a reasonable Soviet girl: to study to become a doctor, get married, have children. But this is the first half of the eighties, and Russian rock takes over young minds, Alisa plunges headlong into the element of informal associations, leaves the institute where she had just entered, becomes a journalist - writes about rock music for samizdat underground magazines. Interviews Viktor Tsoi, travels to apartment buildings and festivals - communicates with the still young Shevchuk, Kinchev, Pyotr Mamonov and Boris Grebenshchikov. He leads a chaotic creative life - often spending the night in unfamiliar squats, becoming close to Sergei Gromov, the editor of the homemade rock almanac "Gonzo". Gromov is older than Alice, he is a typical playmaker, but it is him that Alice loves with all her soul. “The Light Crown” is a novel about great true love, unfolding against the backdrop of the collapse of the Soviet myth. The book is smart and insightful, sincere and sensual. What real Literature with a capital L should be!
