Nikolai Mikhailovich Przhevalsky (1839-1888) once said: “Life is beautiful because you can travel.” A passionate hunter, he passionately loved nature. The military man worked tirelessly for the benefit of peaceful science. A local gentleman, a major general, died on the edge of the ecumene, on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul. The famous Russian traveler traveled on foot and on camels throughout Central Asia - from the Russian Far East, through Urga (Ulaanbaatar), Beijing (Beijing) and the Gobi Desert - to the outskirts of the sacred capital of Lamaism, Lhasa. The protected Ussuri taiga, the bare Mongolian steppes, the outlandish landscapes of China, the dangerous mountain paths of Lamaist Tibet, the withering heat of the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts - he went through all this, and more than once, in order to more closely connect its own Far Eastern outskirts with Russia. Thanks to his tireless efforts, Mongolia, China and Tibet became closer to Russia. A city, a mountain range and a species of wild horse discovered by him were named after him. His contemporary A.P. Chekhov wrote: “Such people... in all centuries and in all societies, in addition to scientists and state merits, also had enormous educational significance. One Przhevalsky or one Stanley is worth a dozen educational institutions and hundreds of good books.” But Nikolai Mikhailovich himself wrote several wonderful books about his unprecedented travels. Exciting adventures, dangerous incidents, armed skirmishes with nomads, wild yak safaris in the foothills of Tibet - all this and much more on the pages of N. M. Przhevalsky’s travel diaries. Electronic publication includes all the texts of the paper book and the main illustrative material. But for true connoisseurs of exclusive publications, we offer a gift classic book. The publication is generously illustrated with color and black and white images of hard-to-reach, exotic and simply dangerous places visited by the researcher. The gift edition is designed for everyone who is interested in distant countries, their nature and culture, as well as stories about adventures and extreme incidents that await travelers in the wild exotic corners of the Earth.
