The island where Alice and her sister Riley were born lives by its own rules. Here in the summer everyone walks barefoot, without fear of splinters, they rarely lock the doors of their houses and trust each other without hesitation. Life is scheduled not by the clock, but by the ebb and flow of the tides and the ferry schedule - one of the few threads that connect the quiet island with the New World. It is not difficult to escape from this world; it is much more difficult to return to it. Sooner or later, every islander has to choose - to go on a long voyage or stay forever on their native sandy shores. Alice and Riley will also have to make this choice.
