The famous military historian Helmut Greiner dedicated his book to the activities of the Wehrmacht High Command in the early years of World War II. Using materials from the Wehrmacht combat journal, which the author kept from 1939 to 1943, he compiled a detailed report on the actions of the operational headquarters in the preparation and conduct of campaigns on the Western and Eastern fronts. Assessing the political situation and military situation in Europe on the eve of major battles, Greiner cites the texts of Hitler’s operational directives for operations Weserübung, Sea Lion, Sonnenbloome, Marita, Barbarossa, etc. Particularly interesting are excerpts from the combat journal entries actions of the operational headquarters regarding Hitler’s negotiations with the commanders of the Wehrmacht and the leaders of the allied states.
