From the beginning of the 16th to the 18th centuries, the Black, Azov and Caspian seas turned into an arena of fierce confrontation between the Cossacks and Turkey and Persia. For three centuries, the Cossacks kept the merchants and residents of the coastal villages of the Ottoman Empire at bay. Their sudden raids on coastal villages had one goal - the seizure of booty. The Russian and Ukrainian Cossacks were a force that not only the authorities of Turkey and Persia, but also the governments of the Muscovite kingdom and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth had to reckon with. Their daring sea forays became one of the reasons for the end of Turkish expansion in southern Europe. However, on the other hand, their predatory attacks hindered the development of Russian trade on the Volga and Caspian Sea. It took several centuries of persistent struggle for the Cossacks to enter the system of the Russian armed forces and become a stronghold of the rule of law and law and order on the southern borders of our Fatherland. The book is addressed to a wide range of readers interested in the history of maritime robbery and navigation in general.
