Yakov and the Seven Thieves is the third of five books for children (and those who have already grown up) written by Madonna.
“I was inspired to write this book inspired by the teachings of the Baal Shem Tov, the great sage of the 18th century, who dedicated his life to preaching love and virtue. This is a story about how each of us always has the opportunity to reach Heaven, even despite the sins and bad deeds that we sometimes commit. One has only to overcome oneself, rise above one’s shortcomings, and miracles will begin to happen in our lives and in the lives of other people. We should not forget that good always triumphs over evil and behind the pitch darkness lies the shining sun!” Madonna.
Yakov, a kind shoemaker, and his wife, Olga, are heartbroken because their son Mikhail is seriously ill. They ask for advice from a wise old man who counted on the help of the seven thieves and proved that miracles can happen if we do good. Illustrations for Madonna’s new work were made by Russian artist Gennady Spirin. The author's style of this master, who designed 33 children's books, seemed ideal to the publisher for conveying the special atmosphere of a small town in Eastern Europe in the 18th century, where the events described in the book take place.
The list of publishers of Madonna's books continues to grow. The book “Jacob and the Seven Thieves” has been published in 38 languages in more than 110 countries. The world premiere of the book took place on June 21, 2004, and on August 16, Madonna’s birthday, the book appeared in Russian stores.
