Mortimer Tate, a former insurance agent, waits out the end of the world for nine years in a cave on top of a mountain in Tennessee. It so happens that, defending himself and his refuge, he kills three people, after which he decides to go down to the valley to see what remains of America, which no longer exists. A picture of complete ruin appears before his eyes. What little remains of civilization are centered around strip clubs, where the beer is cold, the dancers are hot, and the bouncers are armed to the teeth. Accompanied by cowboy Buffalo Bill, gorgeous stripper Sheila and mountain man Ted, Mortimer travels to the ruined city of Atlanta in the hope that he can contribute to the rebirth of humanity...
