Once every hundred years, the fairy queen Mabilon chooses a groom among mortal youths. This time her choice fell on Roland Barton from the small town of Fairyton, in the vicinity of which there is a gate to the world of fairies. But Roland has a fiancee, Jennette Hall. The girl is unable to come to terms with the loss of her betrothed and goes after him to bring her groom back. The plot of the novel is based on the myths and legends of Great Britain, as well as old English and Welsh fairy tales.
