It all starts in the seventies, in one of the Leningrad schools. The first beauty of the class, Albina Vikhoreva, falls in love with the quiet Zhenya Nevsky, and then leaves him, succumbing to the brazen charm of the ringleader Sashka Akentyev. After the graduation party, Nevsky disappears... Another of their classmates, Kirill Markov, under pressure from his father, enters a prestigious university. But he is not keen on studying and, having somehow encountered Akentyev, begins working with him in a fashionable youth cafe as a disc jockey. He drops out of college and leaves home. Popularity, beautiful life, beautiful women... Especially Jane Bolton. But the love between the son of the director of a defense enterprise and an Englishwoman who came to the Union, as it turned out not only for the sake of studying Russian literature, was not to the taste of the KGB. Kirill is forcibly placed in a mental hospital, and Jane is arrested and sent to England. Kirill's college friend Dima Ivolgin marries Natasha Zabuga, a promising gymnast. Having won the European Championship, she, at the instigation of her high-ranking lover, leaves her husband and recently born daughter, asks for political asylum in England, where she resumes her Leningrad acquaintance with Jane. But all of them - the children of this city - will soon meet again under the ghostly cover of white nights...
